WFG Sponsored Emily Sweeney Cracks Top-10 at Junior Luge Event

World Financial Group Sponsored Olympic USA Luge Team [KONIGSSEE, Germany]World Financial Group (WFG) sponsored, USA Luge's Emily Sweeney finished ninth in the Youth A (to age 17) women's division this past weekend, for her second straight top-10 finish of the season.

After sitting in 17th place after the first heat, she regrouped and came back to break into the top-10. Sweeney (Suffield, Conn.) finished her second run in 47.317 seconds, ranked fifth for the heat, for a combined time of 1:36.177 and the ninth place finish. She has now placed in the top-10 in both races so far this season and is fourth in the season's overall standings. Fellow American Summer Britcher (Glen Rock, Pa.) finished 12th with a time of 1:36.542.

Germany's Aileen Frisch took the gold in one minute and 33.698 seconds. Countrywomen Luzie Loscher and Nathalie Burkhardt slid to silver and bronze medals respectively.

In the Youth A men's division, Germany again stood alone on the podium. Chris Eissler won gold; Chris Gorlitzer, silver and Tobias Deinert, bronze. Andrew Sherk (Ft. Washington, Pa.) was the top finisher for the United States. He placed 19th with a time of 1:42.364 while teammates Vincent Simkin and Aaron Barge didn't finish.

In the Junior men's division, Trent Matheson placed 13th in the season's second event with a time of 1:36.015, maintaining his 10th place overall ranking. Fellow American Taylor Morris finished 15th.

Germany's Carina Schwab raced to the gold medal in the women's division, while teammates Lisa Liebert and Madeleine Teuber received silver and bronze respectively. Ralf Palik, Sascha Benecken and Julian van Schleinitz also took home the medals for Germany, winning gold, silver and bronze respectively. Lea Venderlinden (Midway City, Utah) placed 20th as the lone U.S. slider in the women's division.

The Junior World Cup will remain in Germany for the third event December 12-13, 2008 in Oberhof, Germany.
